How to Spot Edited or Tampered Images

When something about an image looks off

Maybe a product photo was retouched. Maybe an object was added or removed. Maybe two “identical” images aren’t quite identical. Edits can be subtle — a cloned-out blemish, a shifted element, a recolored region — and your eye won’t reliably catch them, especially when you can only look at one image at a time. The fastest way to find an edit is to compare the suspect image against a known original.

How to reveal edits in three steps

If you have the original and the edited version, DiffALL shows you exactly what changed:

  1. Upload both images — the original and the one you want to check.
  2. Read the difference heatmap — a colour overlay where untouched areas stay calm blue and edited regions light up red, with a marker drawn around each changed area.
  3. Check the similarity score — SSIM tells you how much of the image is unchanged; the heatmap tells you where the edits are.

What the comparison reveals

  • Retouching — cloned, healed, or blurred regions show up as differences.
  • Added or removed objects — anything inserted or erased lights up on the heatmap.
  • Splices and composites — pasted-in regions differ from the original pixels around them.
  • Recolouring and tonal edits — colour and brightness changes are caught even when the shapes are identical.

Important: you need the original

This technique compares an image against a reference. It tells you precisely where two images differ — which is exactly what you want when you have a “before” and “after.” (It is not a standalone forensic analyser that detects manipulation in a single image with no reference.)

Common use cases

  • Content and brand QA — verify an approved asset wasn’t altered before publishing.
  • Marketplace and listing checks — compare a submitted photo against the original.
  • Design review — confirm an exported image matches the source.
  • Before/after verification — quantify and locate exactly what an edit changed.

Try it now

If you have the original, you don’t have to guess what was edited. Upload both images and let DiffALL highlight every changed region for you.

Stop hunting for differences by hand. DiffALL spots every change between any two files — automatically.
